Synopsis
Oedipus
the King is the story of Oedipus, King of Thebes. Abandoned
as a young child, Oedipus returns to Thebes, unaware of
his heritage and the phrophecy surrounding his birth.
The fulfillment of his destiny and of those prophecies
results in grave consequences for the royal house of Thebes.
The tragedy of Oedipus, who unknowingly slays his father
and marries his mother, is one of the mythical cornerstones
of Western civilization.
