Synopsis
Lucas Corso is a bibliophile mercenary in the middle of
two searches. He needs to prove if a manuscript of “The
Three Musketeers” is genuine. He must also find
the solution to the enigma of a diabolic book, burned
with the printer in 1667 by the Holy office and condemned
by the Vatican., Only two other copies are known. He must
search from dusty old bookstores to the most select libraries
owned by important international collectors. “Pérez-Reverte
has plundered the works of Dumas and Conan Doyle, borrowed
from demonology and the occult, filched from American
hard-boiled mysteries, incorporated contemporary literary
criticism, and come up with a novel that's witty, suspenseful,
and intellectually provocative.”—Booklist
